Sludge treatment wetlands

Sludge treatment wetlands (STW) are an alternative technology that reduce operation and maintenance costs compared to conventional technologies via low energy requirements and technical simplicity. STW allow enough retention time for dewatering and progressive mineralization of sludge deposit and the product of the process is a valuable bio-fertilizer.

While STW usually receives secondary sludge, the innovation of this technology within LIFE INTEXT will be the application of anaerobic sludge, expected to accomplish a final solids content of 30% of dewatering and mineralization from initial 1%, thus reducing 30 times transportation needs.
